Organization and having a home where I’m not feeling anxious about clutter is so important to me. I personally thrive in a clean environment, and I know there are areas I need to tackle. This year I want to start off right and get organized and declutter everything. Our house has become SO much smaller with a child. We now have toys everywhere, more clothes, and tiny things all over. I wouldn’t trade it for the world but I there is definitely more chaos in our household.

So here’s how I’m planning to stay more organized in the new year:
Inspiration|
I love love love following accounts, listening to podcasts, reading books, or watching shows that spark inspiration for organization and living a more simplistic lifestyle. I love Simplified by Emily Ley and Clean Mama on Instagram. I also started watching Tidying Up on Netflix and I LOVE it. I’ve used the Konmari method when folding for months now and it’s life changing (especially for Nathan’s clothes)!
Declutter |
First things first, I’m going through my whole house and getting rid of things that we haven’t touched or needed in the past year. I’m talking a huge, ruthless decluttering spree. I’m going though all of my makeup and tossing things that are old or expired and things I’m just not into anymore. Also, our food cabinets and closets. Pinterest has amazing checklists and resources for how to declutter your entire home.
Tools|
Bins- I am finding that I needed more storage and bins to really separate and organize everything. Especially baby clothes! I feel like I am constantly going through his clothes and figuring out what still fits, is in season, or what we need to put away. Bins and boxes are a must.
A planner – I am making it a point to utilize my planner. In addition to my planner I use my reminders on my phone constantly. I set reminders for all bills that reoccur each month and then I check them off as I pay them. It’s sooo helpful. My phone is really my lifeline to staying on top of doctors appointments, assignments, and paying things on time.
A file folder for each year- I’ve been doing this since we got married and it really, really helps. I have a large file folder with labels (bills, car, medical, taxes, check stubs, etc) and every month I make sure all of the papers are put away. At the end of each year I throw away what we don’t need to keep and put everything else that needs to be saved in another retention folder to be stored. It really helps knowing where I can look for any paper item that we need.
These are all of my plans for how I am going to keep myself accountable and prepared for staying organized this year! Are you doing a major clean out and restart this month? If so, leave your tips!
